Bike Mom and two sons Elroy WI bike adventure, p. 2

The plan was to stay at the Department of Natural Resources walk-in campground in Elroy on July 24, take about eight hours to ride up to Sparta, spend the night at the walk-in campground there and then turn around the next day to return to Elroy.  Asa would ride a trailer bike pulled by Natalie.  A trailer would be hooked up to the trailer bike, and Orion would ride separately.  If absolutely necessary, Orion could switch with Asa so that he could get a break from pedaling.
After a day-long family reunion in Elroy and New Lisbon, the Iwasas arrived at the campsite parking area about 10:30 p.m.  The first thing they noticed was that the toilet building was “closed for the season,” and the water pump was covered.  (Perhaps Natalie’s brother was right when he said to make sure to take a gallon of water per person.)  Then, as they walked along the bike trail, they came across a campsite sign with an arrow that seemed to point to a tunnel under the road.  With the recent rains, puddles three to four inches deep had accumulated in the tunnel.  In the darkness, they didn’t notice the driveway across the road.
“How would you boys like to sleep in the van tonight,” Natalie asked.
It was easy to figure out the sleeping arrangements.  Orion got the back seat so he could lie down and be somewhat comfortable.  It was important that he get a good night’s sleep so he could make the entire trip on his own.  Asa would get a passenger seat that reclined to an almost-flat position, and Natalie was left with the driver’s seat that also reclined but only to a position that was less than desirable.  It worked okay, until Asa woke up and joined Natalie in the driver’s seat.  The rest of the night was like musical seats in the van for Asa -- he just couldn’t get comfortable.  The sun rose a little too early that morning, and Natalie decided it would be best to try to get a little more sleep before starting their bike adventure.
