Come join us for this fun 2, 4, 6, or 8 mile walk, stroll, jog, run, or bike event to celebrate the Grand Opening of the full 4+ mile long Lihi Park to Ahihi Point length of Ke Ala Hele Makalae's Phase II.

Starts & finishes at Kapaa Beach Park.

Cyclists convoy from Kapaa to Lihue on Bike to Work Day 2009

A convoy of as many as twenty-six Kauai workers and citizens participated in the Bike to Work Day Event on Friday, May 15th 2009.

The commuter convoy gathered at 7:30am at Kapaa Beach Park for a pre-ride safety orientation with convoy leader and veteran cyclist Laurel Brier before riding to Lihue.

Numerous notable participants, including Kauai’s Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Kauai County Council Members Tim Bynum and Lani Kawahara, Police Chief Darryl Perry, and Kauai’s Bike to Work Week organizer Greg Robison, attended the nine-mile ride from Kapaa Beach Park to the Lihue Civic Center. “Biking promotes healthier lifestyles,” offered the Mayor, “and is good for the environment...two things that are important for all of us on Kauai. With the opening of phase two of our coastal multi-use path - Ke Ala Hele Makalae - right around the corner, this is a great reminder to get out of our cars and onto our feet and bicycles! Mahalo to the many Kauai Path and Hawaii Pedal Power volunteers who planned Kauai's participation in this statewide event.”

Kauai coastal path wins disability access award

Honolulu Advertiser staff—Ke Ala Hele Makalae - Phase II, a coastal bike and pedestrian path on Kaua'i, was honored for its accessible design by the state Disability and Communications Access Board.


The Accessible Design Award program recognizes buildings, facilities and sites statewide that are not only accessible, but also enhance the users' entire experience while being aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Hapa Trail Walk and Talk

The Hapa Restoration Committee invites you to our next Hapa Trail Walk on Saturday, June 13 at 9:00 am.

We will gather around 8:45 am at the beginning of the trail near St Raphael's church, in Koloa. This will be a round trip walk, with refreshments provided at the south end of Hapa Trail near Poipu Road. Following refreshments, we will walk back up Hapa Trail to St Raphael's church. Approximately 2 hours round trip.

Kauai County Council Passes Bicycle Friendly Resolution

The Kauai county council has, by a vote of 6-0, approved resolution #2008-44: "To support efforts by the State of Hawaii, county of Kauai, and other stakeholders to improve bicycle safety in the county of Kauai."

"WHEREAS, bicycling is an activity with many benefits for individuals and the community..."

"...that the Council urges the State and County to continue all efforts to improve conditions for safe bicycling..."

Ke Ala Hele Makalae Phase III :: Lydgate Park to Kapaa :: Walking Site Visit with Kauai candidates — 2008

On October 4, 2008 Kauai Path volunteers escorted several candidates for Kauai’s political offices on a walking site visit to the Lydgate Park to Kapaa section of Ke Ala Hele Makalae that is planned to be built in 2009-2010. Candidates and volunteer escorts attending included:

A long section north of Kealia is almost done except for a few open segments near the closed gate.

 

 

Phase II Signage :: locating trail maps

August 19, 2008: Public Works' Building Division Chief Doug Haigh got together with Kauai Path's Secretary Thomas Noyes, Operator / Lead Man Roscoe Uyeda (in the hard hat), and Mark Nishida, Project Manager in charge of the construction of Phase II of Ke Ala Hele Makalae by Jason Glover, Ltd. to choose locations for the trail head signage.
